Z axis build using CNC Router Parts.

I am fairly new to CNC but I have completed the build of an MDF CNC machine and got it running. I realized my Z axis is in bad shape and decided to build the CNC router parts standard Z axis. My thought was that it will help me to slowly upgrade the other two axis to aluminum in due course. I got all the parts yesterday evening minus one little part. Cory at CRP was very helpful in discussing my need and guiding me to get the correct parts. I will document the build here for the benefit of other newbies like me and to get some feedback from the experienced folks out here.

Here is what i am building

Finished tapping the extrusion and mounting the plate/rail and carriages. I was so surprised to see how simple and it was to get the tolerance set on the carriage bearings. Attachment 200924Click image for larger version.

I went with CRP 5 start threaded rod and dumpster cnc anti-backlash nut.

I guess i made a mistake in ordering the extrusion. The plan call for 18.5 inch of extrusion and I ordered 18" extrusion. Now the bearing block and collar is tight. I think the the coupler is a bit above the motor mount.

Wondering what my options are. Do i move the steel rail .5" down or buy a new extrusion that is 18.5" long? Is it a problem if .5" rail stick out from the edge of extrusion?

I also realized that i have't ordered the High Z plate to mount the carriages. I was planning to mount this whole Z axis to my old router by bolting the high z plate to by y axis. So Z axis is on hold util i can resolve this.
