    X7 to X4 Save

    We have two locations.

One uses X7 and the other X4.

Is there a way to save X7 drawings to later be opened on X4 other than saving the X7's as DXF files and transporting on a flash drive to the X4 location?... which I forgot to do the other day.

The simple question would be: How can I save X7 files to later open on X4?

    Thanks for your help.

    Doug

.... Oh, I hope it's so simple that everyone will laugh at me. But, I'll be informed and save a ton of time and effort.

    Yep

    --> File --> Save as ( or Save some ) -- > File Type ( select Mastercam X4 )

"Save some" allows you to select what items you need saved, before selecting what file type you what to export it to.

NOTE ____ only the geometry can be backward saved, toolpaths created cannot go backwards

i don't believe you have the option of saving the geometry from X7 back to X4 due to X7 being a 64 bit software and X4 being 32 bit. yo will have to save it out as dwg or dxf.
If you can ENVISION it I can make it

Yeah - I just looked at my X7 (haven't messed with it too much yet) and my only mastercam "save as" option is to save it as a X7 file...All other file "save as" types are non mastercam. Just checked the "save some" and it is the same also. Just X7 as an option.

you can only save back in the 32bit even in the 64 bit X6 you can not save back to earlier versions due to 64bit.
And another thought if you are only saving wire frame I guess saving as DXF is fine but is that all that there is in the geo?

You can save your X7 file as an IGES. then you can open in any X ver of mastercam. You will have wireframe and geometry.

This days I stay as far as I can from Iges to a point. but if all you have is wire and surfaces this will work well. if you have solids then go with STP.

    **SOLVED**

So I am using x9 and I wanted to save as (mcx) and it said it wasn't able to. So then I save it in the following method.

File>Save As>*All Files* (drop down menu)

Then name your file whatever you want and end it with (.mcx-4, mcx-3, mcx-2)

Then locate the file and right click it to rename it and change the mcx-4 to (.mcx).

Ok so when you save it as (.mcx or another version older than what you're using) Mastercam detects you trying to save it as an older file so it gives you an error message but since (.mcx-4,mcx-3,mxc-2) don't exist, it doesn't detect anything.

    x, x²,x³,x⁴--(.mcx)
    x5-above --(.mcx-5,mcx-6 and so on)

So there is no such thing as (mcx-4, mcx-3, mcx-2)

If you want it to open in 32-bit or 64-bit you'll have to rename the file in the computer you're using..

    It saves tool paths too!

I don't know why Mastercam isn't able to do this
It should give us that option.
It's scheme to make us buy the newer versions

    Hope it helps all y'all!
