    Drive set up

I have the PP heavy duty gantry with drives both sides. I set Mach 3 to the settings Ron supplied for the motors I have from Tom at CandCNC bladerunner.

If I jog slow or medium speed, the gantry works well. At fast jog, it will seem to bind up and stop losing steps. This also happens at rapid speeds to the start of a cut at the middle of a sheet. This is an intermittent problem. I have removed the drives, cleaned and re-installed the drives. I reset the motors and checked the belts. Everything seem fine there. If I remove the motors, the gantry will glide along the rails nice and smooth. The rack and pinions seem to be in alignment and run well.

I am thinking maybe the acceleration might be too high for the axis or the rapid travel speed. Any suggestions on changing the speeds and where?

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Gary

    Gary,

What kind of computer are you using? Do you only use this computer for running mach and nothing else? I had this same problem and it turned out the computer I was using was sending wrong signals, so I bought one from Tom at Candcnc and worked like a charm.

I am using a IBM XP sp2 Mach 3 only. All other axises work fine. I will check it out though with another computer I have for a back up that ran a small router without any problems.

    thanks

I have the same table and have the bladerrunner kit with 5 axis as I have the rotatory chuck. I use the specs Ron supplied for the motor tuning and haven't had a problem with the motors at those specs

I tried to use the settings Ron supplied. They worked ok but the X/A axis would bind in different places. This only happens with jog or travel to a cut on the plate. I'm thinking the rapid speed is too much as I took the acceleration down from 25 to 20 and it will still do it. I just need to figure out where to slow the rapid travel speed down.

The thing is that when I cut at 250 ipm I have no problems.

    Thanks for your response

Same place you reduced the acceleration.
The Velocity setting in the motor tuning screen is the rapid speed.
