Which Industrial Standard to Use (NFPA, ANSI, ISO?)

    Hello,

I built my own cnc machine here last year. I followed NFPA 79 for industrial machinery during the build. It served me well!

Now, I work for an automated device manufacturing company that is moving to America and I need to figure out which standards we need to follow. The devices can all be carried around by two people and use 120 VAC with less than 20Amps; most are 5Amps or less.

Does anybody know any other standards that I might have to comply with to sell in North America, including Canada? I searched NFPA listings and found some documents that I will read through. Do I need to search ANSI or ISO or some other standards? Where should I look? I believe these will be classified as "portable" devices in NFPA 79.

    Thanks in advance!!

The NFPA 79 and the NEC should get you through the majority of requirements, but I am not sure if you required to obtain a UL or CSA clearance sticker for portable devices?

Some facilities would require UL or TUV for US/Canada. Basically, has to be NRTL compliant. https://www.osha.gov/dts/otpca/nrtl/
