I just finished setting up and running my Kleinbauer machine for the first time. I've yet to add limit switches. Are the limit switches there to protect against runout or there to provide a "home" position. Where should the "home" position be in relation to the bed; in the exact center, at one corner???? Should have done a search first. Found a post that says the Y position should be at the far back edge of the bed and the Y at the far right, did I understand that correctly?

If the second Y which you put at the far right is a typo and you really meant X then I think you have it correct .

Limit switches are to prevent the machine from crashing. Home sitches are used to set a repeatable "home" position. That home postion can be wherever you want it to be. Usually, homing a machine sets the axis to zero, but that doesn't have to be the case. Home switches can also do double duty and act as limit switches and home switches.
