We run a fanuc 16i-m lasercut for making steel rule dies. We have recently run into a problem where the x axis doesn't burn properly. A test of 4 parallel lines comes out uneven on the x axis. the y axis is fine. there are no alarms. none on the display or on the servo amps. Has anyone run into this problem?

could a bad encoder cause such a problem?

Hi jesrd
more likely its a ball screw or mechincal issue on the Yaxis
check backlash on both x & Y axis

i have a late reply but it ended up being the pin that secures the motor gear that connects to the belt on the x axis. it was indeed mech thank you.
