Hi I am a member of the local Mens shed, and as such we have just purchased a Stepcraft 600 CNC wood router. we are keen to share G code and design projects. being absolute beginners we hope to be able to raise the skill level of our members and introduce them to computer aided technology. we are a not for profit community based association in a Rural area in Victroia Australia.

Hello! New to the CNC table routing. We purchased a Colex Sharpcut at work, and my boss also purchase a Jcut for use at home, so I'm working on learning both systems.

    Hello everyone,

South African CNC noobie here, well not that noob. I've been CNC'ing for a couple months now, a 6040Z CNC setup with Mach3 but I still have much to learn and eager to join the conversation on this forum.

    Hello everyone!
I'm a software engineer (banking domain ) in France, but I got a diploma in electronics (~35 years ago), and I program Arduinos and such small CPUs.
I've just bought a Super X2, which I want to transform to a CNC machine. At least when my controller board will be repaired: it burnt last week!
I hope someone will be able to help me!
I also built a small aluminium foundry recently to cast pieces for my small 7x14" lathe and my SX2.

    Ananké.

    Re: Hello

    Hello,

John here, Sun Valley, California. Just retired (Friday Jan 5!) after 43 years as mechanical engineer/engineering manager. I'm a live steamer and have the garage filled with a BP, 13" and 9" South Bends, Enco 12" lathe, Diamond horizontal mill, SB 7" shaper. Now making a hole for a Tormach PCNC 1100 to come to stay. Kind of a 2D AutoCad guy (my staff handled the 3D stuff). Ran a Haas VF3 at the local JC. Live steam work is mostly 2-1/2D but it looks like Fusion 360 is in my future and maybe full blown 3D CAD/CAM.

    Re: Hello

Hello, new member, just recently puchased a used 5 x 10 CNC Router Parts router from the original builder. Learning alot about the machine and setup parameters with Mach 3. Looking for help with setting up my Hitachi WJ200 inverter and 2.2 spindle. Would like to control both on/off and spindle speed through Mach 3. Looking forward to learning and sharing the results.

Re: Welcome thread-tell us about you.

Hi, while new to the modern world of CNC I have to admit that I first encountered CNC 50 years ago when I was hired to help develop the control software for some of the first CNC work to be done using micro-controllers instead of the big industrial computers of the day. The first project was to develop the generic controller based on a two-board microcomputer to drive an Okuma Lathe and an XY plotter. Somewhere laying around in my old documentation I still have the EIA RS spec that defines the Gcode system.
But that was a very long time ago. Now my interest is in personal projects for simple 2D to 2.5D projects for wood and aluminum. But I am surprised at the tremendous range of cost and quality in the CNC products on offer today. Some of the cheaper Chinese products actually look to be made more rigidly than a number of the popular domestic products. But I have a lot to learn yet and am hoping to draw on the information that all of you have gained in the 40+ years I've been away from CNC!
