    Exclamation Tramming Taig mill

Question: I trammed my Taig mill for the first time yesterday. I the process however, I noticed that the reading changed quite a bit (.01") depending on where on the table i put the dial indicator down. I measured at a radius of around 6" from the spindle. I measured straight down to the table (dont have 1-2-3 block yet - do I need one for this?) If I measure directly to the left and right of the spindle, i trammed it to +/- .001" or so. So, it appears that the mill is trammed in the X direction. But still, if I move the indicator from the spot where I trammed it, the reading is changing a lot. It seems the mill is not squared in the Y direction, if that makes any sense.

    Any ideas?

You can adjust the y-axis by shimming under the top or bottom of the dovetail piece that the headstock attaches to.

This whole process can drive you nuts.

I'm assuming you saw the two articles I have up at my site about adjusting the mill?
