I have spent the last few years making parts for myself, so I have never needed the ability to quote fabrication rates. I have just received my first job from a neighbor, and I could use some input to quote a price that is fair.
This neighbor is a factory-sponsored rider who races motorcycles. I have received a job to make 2 identical parts:
-4140 Steel
-2" x 2.1" x .850" thk.
-.5" x .5" square recess at edge
-.250" slot cut fully through along center of recess, 1.5" length, .125" radius
at ends
-accurately located M25x1.50 threaded hole cut fully through .850" thick
part, threaded half way. The rest of the hole is bored to 1.125
My outline of the job procedure:
-Cut 2"x1" bar to near length of 2.1"
-Machine blocks to accurate length and squareness, achieving final length
-Machine 1" thickness to final thickness of .850" using indexable face mill
-Cut recess along edge that measures .5" below surface and .5" in from side
-Cut .250" wide bolt slot
-Locate hole and drill .250" hole through part.
-Enlarge hole using .625" counterbore
-Bore stepped hole using manually-adjusted boring head in mill.
-Tap threads
-Finish part with file to soften edges and remove tool marks.
I made a rough sketch in MSPaint to help visualize the part...
Opinions?
Thank You!
