    Testing a power adapter

Ok I bought a powermac g3 laptop to run some old software that I have. However it wouldn't power on. Now the adapter has a green led that did light up but at the output when I measured with my meter there was nothing. This plug output for these old macs looks like a rca jack. I just wanna know if I measured right?

I put my ground lead of the tester to the outer sleeve of the power adapter output and the positive to the inner prong and I got nothing.

Did I do it right ?

Doesn't matter which lead you put on the outer and inner connections, it should read something, just that if you have it backwards it will read a -ve voltage.
Mostly the inner is +ve, but not always.
Does it have the voltage/current rating on the adapter?
It should not be hard to replace, most now are switching supplies and precise output, if yours is an older one, it could be a linear supply, if so and you can open it up somehow, probably can be fixed.

The plug on that power adapter may not be as simple as you think. Compare with this web site. If your's is the same, 24 volts is deeper down inside the plug where you cannot easily get to it.
