    Stepper Question

    Hi Guys

New to this excellent forum, Just prurchase the MDF and will be starting cutting it up today.

On the motor end Biplor and unipolar what is best.
I have the chance of getting a:

VEXTA STEPPER MOTOR PART No PK266-02B DC 2A 1.8 OHM . 2 PHASE STEPPER MOTOR. DOUBLE SHAFT TYPE. 56.4MM SQUARE. 1/4" SHAFT.

It is new and is cheap, is two phase bipolar ?

On Cranky's web site hes says to look out for brands like Vexta so I thought this would be suitable.

Do all the three motors have to be identical ? I know they all would have to be either biplor or unipolar but thats all.

    Thanks guys

Unipolar motors can be used on a bipolar drive, but bipolar motors can't be used on a unipolar drive.

If you are going to use a bipolar drive, either will do, if you go unipolar drive, you need unipolar motors.

You can use 3 different motors, but 3 identical motors makes a neater install...It's what ever makes you happy.

    Thanks for the reply

Is the motor above suitable for something like your first machine ?

Also I have seen 3 of the following for sale.

NEMA 42, 2 Stack, Sanyo Denki H Series High Performance, rare earth magnet, stepper motor
    Sanyo Part No: 103H89222-5421
200 full steps per rev (1.8 degrees per full step); 2.5 Volts, 6 Amps per phase; Holding torque 120 kg.cm (11.8 Nm, 1670 oz.in); Body diameter 106.4mm (4.2 ins); Body length 163.3mm (6.43 ins); 4 lead bipolar motor - can ONLY be used with bipolar stepper drivers.

I think these won't be as cheap though, but are they any good for the purpose.

    I don't know anything about steppers - YET !

OK seems the Nema at 6A is too much 1 - 2A for a small machine seems about right.

    Learning all the time

    Thanks Balsaman for your PM

    Vexta stepper

I have been offered two brand new Vexta PK266-02B steppers rated at 2A 127 ozins which seems very good the spec says 3.6v
but when I look at the product page on the Oriental motor company site it shows 24v and 36v on the graph.

    I am a bit confussed.

Anybody have the web site of Nema type motors

Those are the voltages the motors are being run at to get the results shown in the graph.
