    Clearances

anyone have quick-reference guides or links for clearances for mating parts? as example, a tube the slips inside another tube (say very smooth tubes inside and out). technically the OD of inside tube could be just 0.001 less than ID of outer tube and it should slip in there, but tubes are not perfectly round. another example, a 6061 round end cap that has a shoulder cut on outer dia so that the shoulder can fit into the end of a tube, and then cap is TIG'd to OD of tube. if the shoulder is just 0.125" deep what dia clearance would work if cap needs to be snug, 0.0005, 0.001, 0.002 ???

thus, just looking for general guide, etc.
