Baltic birch will be void free, and very expensive. Also anything sold as marine grade will be void free also, and more expensive.

My preference for sealing MDF is epoxy. Do a slightly oversize finish cut, say .01 oversize, then brush on a coat of epoxy. Let cure, and redo the finish cut to the actual size. You'll get a glass smooth finish that requires no sanding or sealing.
The downside, is that it's time consuming.
Here's an MDF textured panel I did this way, and painted right off the machine.

Can I ask what paint you used to paint the unused portion of the steel railes? I want to do this on my machine to have less area to worry about rusting.
I used Rustoleum Safety Red in the spray can.
Hi Guys,
We use Cardinal RD02 powdercoat on our components.

rwskinner, thanks. Was it a close match to the powdercoat? From the pictures it looks pretty close.
Hello rwskinner,
I just found your posts.... I love what you did and thank you for the photos and details... they help us work on our projects...
I am curious about your electronic enclosures...
They seem to be plastic... do you recall where you got them and about how much they cost....
The metal NEMA type enclosures seem nice but they are like $200 which seems like a lot for just a box....
I don't know if the metal has some special advantages like cutting down on EMI but I think plastic would be easier to cut and drill to add buttons and switches.
Would you be able to tell me more about your boxes and any other thoughts you would like to share? Thank you Very Much.
