Help for calculation of steps per MM.

    Hello!

I am building a smal and simple CNC for the solsylva plans. The 13x13" model.

This CNC uses a regular threaded rod as a leadscrew, but i can seem the get the mathematics right. Can anyone help me?

My steppermotors are regular Nema 23s and they have 200 steps per rotation, and i am planing to use 1/8 microstepping (or should i choose differently?).

THe threaded rod i am using is a normal M6 rod (ISO standard). The pitch between threads is 1mm.

Anyone who can help me with the math?

In Mach 3, under the setting tab, just above the Reset button is the Axis Calibration. Play with that until it gets you where you need to be.Click image for larger version.

    Assuming your units are mm.
Does not get much easier for your setup.

    200steps x 8 (1/8 micro step) = 1600 steps per revolution
1mm pitch lead screw = 1mm per revolution

Mach3 needs to know the steps per unit setup. If it is in mm then
1 unit (mm) movement = 1 full revolution or 1600 steps
So your steps per unit = 1600
