Apart from their availability/popularity, which may mean low price, is there any specific reason for the use of skateboard bearings on the DIY CNC machines.

Cheap was good enough for me.

Cheap was good enought for me.
If it works it works and so far it works great.
I can always replace them too if I see fit in the future.
