Kindof hard to say "why". It has to do with it's construction/command used"..... To start with, the 2 curves that meet at that point, aren't tangent. So doing a simple sweep would create a nice surface, but there would be a visible seam there, and someone may tend to want to start to use commands like matchsrf or something, which would start to produce odd bulges like that. Or improper use of network.

Try network those 4 edges with The 2 rails set as loose, or position with the lower radius set to tangency or curvature, and the top one as position...

If your trying to get those 3 edges to blend together like that, you'll have to fix the tangency of the generator curves meeting point, or you will always get buggard up surfaces.

    lol. Well, that works too.

You can get tangency in the lower 3 surfaces with network, but it moves the little buggar up to the top join, in the lower corner. If you are cutting it, it may not matter. If 3d printing it, that may make it non-manifold.

Probably a little re-work is best.
    Nice ring.

Also you can use VSR shape plugin for Rhino.
You can control shape tolerance when you matching surfaces.
