I'm in the process of designing a CNC router / milling table. I'm looking at using aluminium extrusions and while I think I can manage the calculations for the vertical deflection, I would appreciate a bit of help with the horizontal.
My question is how do you estimate the forces in the horizontal plane. I would think there would be resistance to the routers passage through the wood as well as the force involved in changing direction. Can anyone suggest some assumptions for calculating these?
Alternatively, are there some rules of thumb for extrusion sizes in relation to x y z span size?
