Machining a boss and removing material around it

    All,
I had a very simple part that has a large boss to be machined. I can easily get the boss machined, but I was wondering if anyone could help with how can I get the remaining material out to the edges of the part removed also. I can program what I want manually, but to be truthful I am trying to be lazy and let the software do my work... Any ideas?
    This is MasterCam X5

Thank You.Click image for larger version.

Which tool path are you using?
I have X6 but I don't think there is much difference.
    select toolpaths>2D high speed>core mill
in chain geometry select the outside>turn on multiple machine regions>avoidance regions>select the post you want to leave standing>starting point>select where you want to start the cut (you don't have to do this step if you want Mastercam to decide for you). You should be on your way...

use the 2D high speed Dynamic Core tool-path. pick the 2 chains with the outer one first and then the inner one and the tool will start from the outside and machine leaving the boss in the middle
If you can ENVISION it I can make it
