    Grounding or?

    Hello fellow CNCzoners,

I have come across a recent problem that I suspect is a grounding issue with my machine and between the machine and the computer I use to load programs in to the control. I have had a Fadal CNC (2003 vintage) in the same shop for the past 2 years. Recently I have had problems with DNC issues (parity error) and I have to turn down the baud rate all the way down to 2400 to feed files to the control. Sometimes I can get 9600 but it's all a mess now. A more serious issue is the MPG (pulse generator) will 'scramble' the signal and crash once in a while.

I am certain it is a grounding issue. The computer between the computer and machine is obviously at odds but it is hard to pinpoint a problem that would cause issues with the MPG.

My question is how have the rest of you grounded your machines, and computers you use to transfer programs?

Thanks in advance for all your generous help.

    Warren

It is preferable to feed the P.C. with the same supply and ground conductor from the machine control voltage, some machines have a socket on the outside of the enclosure for this use.
If your does not already use this method, it may help to look into installing one.
