    Knurling Trouble

Im having trouble getting a clean knurl in 6061-T6 with a bump knurl. Typically I use a "Cut Knurl" for aluminum but, the parts I'm running have a tapered OD that I'm applying the knurl to. I'm using a taper knurl holder w/ a 3/8" x 3/4" 28tpi die. All my OD dimensions and plunge depth seem to be correct so, no double tracking. My knurls are coming out with fine chip residue between them, and I'm having to 2nd op these parts on a bench grinder with a wire wheel to clean them up. Part Dia. is approx .950", 450 RPM with a plunge feed rate of .006" per rev. I really need to correct this problem. The shop up the street, competition, has some of the best knurls I've seen and they aren't giving up any secrets.
