Re: Torus Pro with servos and 4th axis

If you're like me, you always wonder about corporate demos and videos....are they set to only show the best side. Tormach's video with Mike Corliss is awesome and a must watch. I'm posting this just add another perspective if you're thinking about getting one. This vid may not be great, but the 3D sensor is!!!!

Looking at it now, I should have checked the spindle to the inside surface instead of a rod in the collet. Bot the rod and the collet could have errors.

Using the Pro Tram System - Edge Technology This is a great example of why this PDB is so nice! If I couldn't run the collet out of the spindle so easily, I'd have to leave this unit in an ER collet, then it wouldn't fit in the case.

This is how I set it up to get some parts done. I'm sure there's much better ways and I'm always open to suggestions.

The crash at the end was because the overrides were way up....my mistake for not resetting them.

This video doesn't show the 4-5 days I spent in the trying to get the feeds/speeds dialed in on this part. I was about ready to call the chatter a "custom finish".

Thought I'd put up links for a couple of the recent things I've done with the mill.

Re: Torus Pro with servos and 4th axis

Time to put some more vids up here.

I don't think I got everything I could out of the end mill, but I'm pretty sure I was cutting this steel faster than most guys cut AL on a Tormach. Not bad mouthing the Tormach....great machine, but the Torus Pro could use a bit more light shined it's way.

Personally, I'd skip to 15:40 and watch from there first.....then decide if you want to watch the beginning to see where I started.

    MKLOTZ;
Nice videos and thanks for sharing. What software are you using to generate your code? I'm a bobcad (ver 25) user and do not have the advanced machining toolpath ($$$) and want to entertain other options. I'm just a hobby user and can't afford packages like solid works! Thanks again for posting!

AutoCAD Fusion360 is free for non-commercial use, and is excellent - runs circles around BobCAD.

Its also free for commercial use as long as you make under $100k a year unless things have changed. I am a fusion 360 user for a while now. The more I use it the more I like it.

Re: Torus Pro with servos and 4th axis

Hmm....guess it's been awhile since I put up anything on here. Kinda funny that some of the stuff I have to share is on the same parts I last posted about.

This is a more recent vid of making the inner bearing adapters. Looks like I forgot to include the finish pass S&F. 3500rpm, .004ipr, .005"doc. The vid is half as long. I had to use a different tool for the first op ID and the second op because I destroyed that boring bar I had been using.

I made some soft jaws so that I could do more than one bushing at a time.....at least for the inside grooves.

Ah....something different....almost forgot about these. I have more vids on my youtube channel, but I figure not everyone who looks at this thread is going to be subscribed to my channel. Not all of my vids are machining related, so I'm only going to put machining related stuff here.....and more specifically, stuff done on the mill.

Re: Torus Pro with servos and 4th axis

I don't think I ever shared this one. It was the first part I actually made with the mill....using it as a mill. Seems pretty pathetic now. lol I'll see if I can post some more recent parts to show how things are going now.
