When facing a flat part on sub. I always get a small tot at center. Anyone have a good solution. Material is 303 ss and I'm using a circle bar with 0 nose rad. Have this problem on our K16 as well as our L20.
Thanks

If you are using a bore bar, the normal tool is set below center. That will leave a "nub" at the center. There are "Turning Bars" made for this type of cutting. You can also get adjustable holders that will help with this if your machine is not perfectly in line. See GenSwiss.com
Another option, if you have the tools available, is to use a small center drill and put "tiny" spot on the face.
I'm talking like ...
G1 Z.0020 F.001
This is generally indistinguishable on the part and combats any of the positions being slightly off with respect to center height.
Good luck.

Ya, your tools is below centerline. You could rotate the tool in the pocket slightly. Since most boring bars are off center, if you rotate it slightly you can adjust the center height a little bit. You could measure the nib and then put an indicator on the tip of the bar, then rotate the bar until you raise it the radius of the nib +.001 for good measure. even of your rake angle is slightly off, it probably wont matter too much in 303.
If that doesnt work, cheating it with the spot drill is a good idea.
