Video of new High Speed Toolpaths 500IPM in tool steel!

I though you guys might like to see the video we just put together that shows the new High Speed Toolpaths in action in Mastercam X MR2.

In this video we are roughing out a small mold pocket. Material is 48 Rockwell Tool Steel. Cutter is 2 Flute .5 ball, .05 Depth of cut at 500 IPM.

The video is large so please give it a minute to load.

No when we are done machining you can put your hand on the part and it is cool to the touch....belive it or not so is the tool. The key to this type of machining is keeping the heat in the chip. Moving that fast with the spindle speed we have we remove the heat with the chip and the part stays cool and stable. I am going to be taking some pics of the finished surface finish hopefully over the next week to also put up. The entire roughing portion of this part took about 9 minutes.

    Nice

Is there a name brand coated carbide endmill that works best?

When I use air blow for chip evacuation my air compressor runs non stop. How about you?

    Thanks

camtd, I do not recall as this is not our machine. I can find out if you wish. This machine and part was cut at the HAAS Factory Outlet near Cleveland, Oh. We work with them all the time and this was a part that we programmed to illistrate the High Speed Toolpaths, Machine and tooling. Next week I will be getting more information about the tooling and specs we used as I do not have them in front of me at this time.

troichoidal toolpath will give you excellent chip evacuation. You can run high speed with a fairly heavy depth of cut

the toolpath sort of continually loops around in a circular motion as it feeds into the material. so its sort of constantly making circular interpolation as it feeds in a somewhat linear motion. its sort of hard to explain, ill post a video and link it, if i can figure out how to work the ftp thing

what is the really impress part of the vidio is the hass machine and the endmill itself, you would think at that feed rate with just air the tool would burnout

If your doing it right all the heat should be in the chip. The Part and the Tool should both be room temp.
