What Thermistor Do I need for my 80-90W Power Supply?

    Hi Everyone,

My laser tube power supply failed yesterday and upon inspecting the power supply we noticed a black circle thermistor melted into pieces. Right now I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which one it is to buy. The only part # i see is NTC and a number 5 at the end. If someone could tell me which one it is and where to buy in California or order online I would really appreciated!

    Thank you!

Re: What Thermistor Do I need for my 80-90W Power Supply?

My response may be to late to help you, but as a electronic tech for some time now, I have seen many of these fail in all types of P.S. They are used to minimize the inrush of current the instant that the power is applied to minimize possible damage to other components. In the real world, they are mainly a pain as they are born to fail from the heat they generate, They get brittle and crack every time or the heat "desolders them" from the mounting leads. Long story short, JUST REMOVE IT AND BYPASS IT. The P.S. will work just fine.
If you have a old time TV shop still around that serviced tube type TV'S, they could have some still in stock that I bet they would be happy to get rid of.( the new designs don't use them any longer)

    Thanks,
    Rick
