    13x40 lathe electronics

Ok so I have a non branded 13x40 lathe and the only identification is the model number co632 nothing else. Anyways the transformer on it went bad and smoked allot. Anyways now it's dead and I'm puzzled as to why it was there. The transformer took 110 vac from the wall and turned it into 110vac and 24vac but the only thing is it was only hooked up to the 110 output. Can anybody let me know why this is here and maybe a replacement or just verification that I don't need it.

Grizzly has a replacement transformer that should fit your application, see attached manual.

Yea they do indeed have have it but not in stock and at $70 it's not too cheap. Do you have any other suggestions.

    Ianagos,

eBay has a abundance of 40 to 50va 24 volt control transformers without the 110 volt isolation / stepdown tap for $15 - $30 dollars

If in fact the 24 volts on your lathe is not being used the transformer may be removed and 110 volts connected directly, however the safety aspect of the isolation transformer would be negated.

A 110 / 110 transformer is not mandatory in order for the lathe to function, just apply fused 110 to where the 110 output would normally connect.
