Speeding up spindle from 3500rpm to 6000rpm J325

Okay so I've got my new sheave made and balanced to make my spindle turn 6000rpm, does anyone know what else has to be done to make the screen read 6000rpm? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Pretty sure you need a new PIC chip to do that conversion. Bob at ZPS would know.

feel like making a 2nd sheave I have been looking an Ametric has one in their catalog but its a 12-14week wait. Ain't nobody go no time fo that.

BTW how did you balance your sheave? Or did you have someone else do it?

I had it made at a machine shop on a cnc lathe then had my buddy balance it on his crank balancer, I can get you the shops number if you want it, they still have the drawings.

That might be cool. I have a buddy that could help me make the sheave as he is going to be making a couple for an RF45 conversion so he can get 5-6k on the spindle. Might just have him kick one out for me at the same time. Did you make yours to work with a taper lock type thing or was it a direct fit to the motor shaft? I never thought about using a crank balancer to balance the pulley. Good idea.

Thanks! And yes made it fit the taper lock bushing that's on the old sheave, I still need to call dynapath so I can change my display to 6000rpm

I don't think Dynapath would be able to do that. I would talk to ZPS or whomever is now doing all of the Tree parts. They would probably have the info you seek. Might even have it for cheap. I called Dynapath about upgrading my memory for 64kb to whatever I could get as a lot of my programs are just over the max I can have on there, and they told me it would be like $500 or more to get the 128kb memory. I think i will stick with drip feeding for now.

Dynapath has always helped me with problems, I had to get a whole new set of boards for my mill when I got it and they walked me right thru everything changing chip sending my pic tables to the chips and everything.

Did you ever get the speed thing sorted out? also what diameter were/are your pulleys? I just did my calculations again and I think I am off a bit and am trying to sort it all out. I have been really dragging my feet about the whole RPM thing and am going to try to get on it in the next week or 2.

never mind. Got the pulley situated and my machine is now running at 6k. Going to have a go at some parts with it tonight to see what it can do. Hooray for more SFM!

Did you end up having to have anything else changed to get the 6000rpm out of it, besides the pulley? I recently purchased a 3500rpm J325

Pulley, belt, and then you have to run a jumper wire in the cabinet to get the control to read the 6k input on your programs. But its all relatively simple to do.
