    G0704, Too tight Column Bolts

Received my G0704 yesterday and I am trying to move into the building by disassembling into 3 parts

Re: G0704, Too tight Column Bolts

I removed table and head and was able to move the column/base myself and lift it onto the stand. As a noobie I didn't want my first operation with the mill to be tramming the column.

I don't have anything helpful to offer about the column bolts, just thought I'd throw that out there. Congrats on the new mill!

These Bolts have lock washers on them. I want to say I had to put an "extension" bar on my hex key to get them loose. But that was over a year ago for me at this point.

I remember they were tight. I probably used a cheater bar of some kind.
A lazy man does it twice.

Those bolts need to be tight. You need to use a hex key socket like the ones pictured here instead of a standard L shaped hex key. You can use these with a breaker handle and get lots of torque. Attachment 236908

I was just about to say a pipe is a very cheap cheater bar. 109jb's suggestion with a torque wrench should be a good idea.
here is a chart to give you a range to torque to.

Is 90 foot pound is good?
Depends upon the bolts. I'd look up common torque values for the size of bolts you have on the net. The nature of the application demands a heavy pre load on the bolts.
