    Motors Won't Lock/Move

    Hi Guys!
I am a complete novice and trying to learn as I go...with that being said...
I have recently acquired a professionally built(2003) 24"x24", 3 Axis, CNC Mill with linear bearings,
ball screws and nuts, Xylotex XS-3525/8S-3 Ver. 1.3, and Japan Servo Co., LTD. Stepping Motors,
    Type KP56LM2-097, DC 6v, 1.8 Deg/Step.
I have purchased and older comp. tower(Dell) running 2000 Pro OS and downloaded The MACH3
    Software.
I have configured Ports and Pins, Motor Outputs, Input Signals, and Motor Tuning.
I have a DRO that moves, I can load GCode and follow the tool path, but I CANNOT make the
    motors move.
What am I doing wrong? not doing? need to do?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank-you, in advance to any responders!!!

Have you gone into BIOS and made sure your parallel port is in EPP mode?

If the motors are not locked up, then your Xylotex is not working.
The motors should lock up with the computer turned off, if the drive is powered up and working.

    Hi, Andrew,
First off thank you for the reply!
As far as what you said, it is Greek to me...
I am not at all tech savvy.
Could you possibly explain in layman's terms? Please?

    Thanks,

    Hi Gerry,

When I purchased the machine from the original builder, he still had it set up and moved the motors. The only difference I could see between his and my setup is,
he had an internal 5v power supply, and I am plugged into a 4.6v wall wart.

    Thank you,

    Kathy Jo,

Please post several pictures from different perspectives of the Xylotex board so all wire connections are readily visible.

Why are you using external 5 volts verses on board 5v d.c.?

    Jeff...

    Thanks Jeff,
I did not have an existing 5v connection in my PC, so I found an adjustable wall wart I could set to 4.6v.
Here are some pics. Let me know if you need anything different.

    Thank you,

    Kathyjo,

Have you checked 24 volt and 5 volt power on the Xylotex board using a volt meter?

No Jeff, I guess I will need to invest in a volt meter?

    Thanks,

Ger is right; even if you don't have communication (which the EPP port does), the motors should lock up. So it's probably a wiring issue, as he says. Your parallel port should source about 5v; I don't think you need the wall wart.

Yes, you do need 5V to power the Xylotex. I power mine from the 5V line of a hard drive connector in my PC.

You can find one for cheap (~$20) that will be accurate enough for your needs. It will come in handy in future, you can be sure of that.
