what on earth is this thing

this came with my mill when I bought it, but I dont think it was actually part of it, it was just laying inside it

however, it may have something to do with it...although I dont really see how. the mill is a mini mill and this machine thing is bigger than its bed.

it appears to be two linear actuators, each mounted on two rails, with a screw and motor. the screw may be ball screw.

then, perpendicular to all that, there are four linear ball bearing bearings which look to allow two larger rails

as if this were the "X" axis and the Y axis is some larger piece of equipment

    whats weird is the front

there are two "flags" welded to each linear actuator which come out the front, sort of like position indicators..there is a sticker that says "PHS2" near one

and there are two circular passages with orings on the front two..dont seem connected to the main mechanism though

    WTF is this???

Id like to tear it apart for its goodies but Id hate to do that if its actually part of some machine someone needs...it looks a little shop-made though..not so much part of a commercial machine

    any ideas?!?!?!!?!?!

Not a clue, but I am guessing that it was for some unique or dedicated purpose that was custom made for manufacturing a certain contract project

Probably was used in an assembly process .... I see slots that more than likely once held limit switches

You bought your mill second hand from someone?
Then just maybe it is an abandoned project to make some sort of XY table for a future machine ... but the maker gave up.
    Well, maybe.
