    focusing method

I'm just starting production with a TK-CNC 80W laser. Howdy all!

It came with a 'focus gage' (laser cut acrylic gage with a hook that's supposed to touch a piece of the nose assy)

I suspect this thing's not even remotely accurate.. After some amount of struggling with really wide spots, I finally propped a piece of chipboard stock up with one end on the honeycomb and the other on a couple spacers, so there was about 1cm rise. Then had the laser cut a line along it, going up the ramp.

Sure as the world, the cut's all bulgy and big at the ends but nice and sharp in the middle somewhere. I'm now using that distance as my focus, which is something like 15mm shorter than the official one, and life is much happier.

How are you all doing your focusing?

    Re: focusing method

I pretty much think that most of us use the 'ramp' method as you have. It works, as each machine is different. I then measure from the workpiece to the bottom of the lens holder and make my own quick set gauge for the focus distance.
