I have had a look at it (set up quite easily in mandrake linux) but I came across Graphiteone (www.graphiteone-cad.com) and it is really good for general mechanical cad - free for home use. Also, though not free but highly recommended is Varicad, for windows and linux

i'll have to check that one out ,
i'm totally new to this linux stuff ,i'm impressed over all with what is available for these systems ,
the gcad system is something that i like the idea of ,just in the fact its a cad/cam program , i don t need to import or export , most stuff i will be doing will be 2d anyhow , so i don t really need a heavy 3d software

If it is plain 2d you want, you'll have to go a long way to beat Q-cad. It uses dxf as its native format. Available free for linux under community edition, or free trial under windows. ( www.ribbonsoft.com)
