    Spindle Wiring Size

    Hello,

I was wondering if someone can help me with my wiring question.

I have a 3KW air cooled spindle that draws 10A @ 220V. What size wire do I need to run from the VFD to the spindle?

    Thank you!

    #14g good for 15a.
I use MTW or TEW single conductor stranded and twist tightly.
If 3 core cable is not used.

    Re: Spindle Wiring Size

When you say spindle, I'm assuming router type machine here, you need to consider how the wire gets to the spindle. If there. Is a lot of flexing involved it will pay to buy a high flex cable. That does get expensive real fast though. The problem is standard stranded wire does not hold up well at all to continous bending or flex.

If you need to be NEC compliant (National Electrical Code) you should follow their recommendations. Other references would put you in to 12ga wire. American Wire Gage for example is very conservative with repsect to current ratings.

By the way in sizes of 14, 12 and 10 ga. Wire. There is a special NEC consideration where these conductors are to be used in circuits of 15, 20 & 30 amps respectively. Since I don't know where you are I don't know if the NEC applies.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to go with 14 awg continuous flex cable. I tried 12 awg in the supplied connector and it would not fit into the screw terminals.
