RF45 Conversion - cal I use steppers and expect good results

Hey all, I am doing an RF45 conversion. I already have a full 3 axis control unit loaded with (3) Geko G203V, power supply, BOB, cooling, enclosure, etc. I would like to keep costs down and reuse this controller. But if y'all think that steppers are a bad idea for a RF45 mill, please let me know (and why too please).

    thanks
    Don

As long as the steppers are strong enough, I don't see why it would not work. Others have certainly done RF45 builds with steppers. Tormach and Novakon use steppers, and they are as big if not bigger than RF45's

I will be using 900 oz steppers on my next IH build for the X and Y soon, I'm still going to use a servo for the Z.

And Gecko drives for all axes.

The 900 might be fine for the Z if you use air shocks and I might add some now that I found some lower cost ones at McMasters.

you can save a ton just shopping around and being patient. I have servos and spent about as much as a decent stepper kit will cost.
