I have been routing some Corian on my small table-top router.
I was using a Whiteside RU2100 router bit, which is (to the best of my knowledge) a general-purpose (wood) 1/4" spiral upcut bit. And it was doing an admirable job. But the bit was old, I imagined kind of dull.
I had already ordered some single-flute o-flute bits on eBay but t hey hadn't arrived yet. So when I was out over the weekend, I picked up a Freud 75-102, which is another general-purpose (for wood, really) spiral upcut bit. I tried it on some Corian and I'm getting what I'd call chatter or vibration that I wasn't getting with the Whiteside.
Looking at the tips of the bits fairly closely, it looks like the Whiteside bit has more of a turn (I don't know how to describe it) at the cutting edge, compared to the Freud, like the Freud presents a flatter or straighter cutting edge to the material.
So I thought, well, I'm going to google for pictures of o-flute bits vs. bits that aren't o-flute, LOL. I didn't even know what a non o-flute would be called. And I couldn't find any pictures that were helpful.
So anyone have a picture that closely shows the different types of flutes? Just a newbie trying to learn my tooling.
