A quick question please,
Howmuch memory does a CNC 88 have?
Does a 1000 lines or so seem about right ?
Thanks,
Bear

If you have no expansion memory boards, the older machines had 38K on the CPU. The later machines have 43K on the CPU. If you have late enough software, go to ENTER NEXT COMMAND and type ME for memory. The early machines will tell you the percentage of free memory. The later machines will tell you the total memory available and the amount that is free.
The number of lines does not mean very much. You might have 12 characters on one line and up to 64 on the next. That is why we go by kilobytes to describe the size of the memory.

What Neal says is right (of course).
Just for a reference though my machine, when it had 43k, I always figured about 2500 lines.
When you type ME I have typically found that you should see it at about 90% free when max memery is available for use (my machine doesn't show mem size). If you have less than 90% clear the memory to get extra space.
The 10% used is holding your fixture and tool offsets.
FYI - it should cost around $500 to upgrade to 422k and I typically get 25 - 30,000 lines code in with that.
