    Servo Motor Encoder Enclosure

I am in the process of replacing the X and Y axis servo motors and encoders on my Industrial Hobbies CNC Mill. I am using the 850 oz/in Keling technology KL34-170-72 servo motors equiped with CUI AMT-102 or AMT-103 encoders. I am retaining the 4:1 pulley ratios and thus using 250CPR Amt-102/103 encoders with quadrature results in the same overall mill Counts Per Inch of 20000. The cover for the encoder was made from thick walled aluminum tubing found inexpensively on eBay. The outside diameter of the tubing was 3.5 inches and the inside diameter was 2.5 inches, giving plenty of room for the AMT-102/103 encoder. The end cover is 0.08 inch aluminum disks again found inexpensively on eBay. The aluminum tube was turned on my Logan 400 Lathe and the end cover was drilled on my Taig cnc mill for the 5-40 thread button head screws. The finished encoder cover was glued to the servo motor with polyurethane glue. This is a simple and easy enclosure to make. The 3D CAD drawings can be found on GrabCAD in .stp format:
