Yes the cut can be faster and cleaner with a quality bit. Upcut cup spiral will leave a clean bottom surface while downcut bits will leave a clean top. In any case it will be better than what you are using. I generally use 1/4" (6.35mm) bits for my cutting. There is a source in Australia but I have forgotten the name.

Remember that really cheap spiral bits usually give an awful cut. I learned this the hard way. I normally buy my Whiteside bits from www.routerbits.com . I tend to buy upcut bits which lift the cut residue out of the cut area.

    RU2100 2 flute upcut 1/4" (6.35mm) shank, 1/4" (6.35mm) cutting diameter, 1" (25.4mm) cutting length, 2 1/2" (63.5 mm) overall length
    RU1600 2 flute upcut 1/4" (6.35mm) shank, 1/8" (3.175mm) cutting diameter, 1/2" (12.7mm) cut length, 2" (50.8mm) overall length
