I am looking at buying a 2011 HAAS VF-2 with the 30,000rpm spindle. Has approx 4000 hours and has a TR210 4/5 axis table. Anyone know of any common issues? Things to look for? Good machine? Bad machine? I will be using it for some light duty, small hole drilling and milling, mostly plastic, alum, G10. I WILL inspect before buying. I currently have 10 Mazak verticals, but just need some more rpm's. Spindle multipliers are out of the question.

It seems the biggest issues with machines like that are related to the high-output spindle. Shops will buy them then skimp out on the tooling, leading to unbalanced problems down the road. I don't know why you wouldn't spend the "correct" amount of effort if buying such a specialized machine, but the haas techs say it's pretty common.
I don't know if there's much way to verify that, though. Vibrations, bad sounds, etc.

I'm not a fan of the Haas 30k machines. They go through spindle belts and the drawbar will go bad long before the the spindle does, but the drawbar is "non-replaceable" so it requires rebuilding or replacing the spindle. Not many of these around.
