Spindle Vs Router
Currently I have a PC 7518 Router mounted to a cncrp 4896 table The router is getting a bit tired in that the speed control is not working well, the runout is getting a bit bad (vibration, etc). I am going to be buying something to replace it whether it is a new router or spindle. I would like to upgrade to a spindle due to reduced noise, less runout, better range of speeds etc, but only have 110V power available. In looking online, that seems to limit me to about a 1.5KW (2 HP) spindle with about an ER11 collet. The collet would not be big enough as I use 1/2 and 1/4" bits mainly, and I am also wondering about the power. The router is rated at 3.25 HP, but I do not believe that to be true. How will a 2 hp spindle compare to a 3.25 hp router? How is the power / torque at the lower speeds on a spindle? The router seems to bog down at lower speeds.
Has anyone come across a 110 spindle with larger collet or higher capacity then what I mention above?
Thanks everyone.
Dan
