    Just spent my afternoon reading through this topic (o;

And since I'm disappointed by the ST L6470 chip the A3986/A4989 might be interesting...

    Just two simple questions (o;

    1. Where do you buy your A3986 chips? A4989 seems to be nowhere and according to a german forum post this month it might take around 40 weeks to market....the only distributor which lists the A3986 is Digikey but has no stock at the moment....

    2. What motor current per phase can it deliver with DPAK MOSFETs and cooling only via copper zones and vias on the PCB itself?

    thanx in advance

    Hi Everyone!
There is a link about my 1st implemented circuit with A3986.
If you’re interested in, Í can give you the PCB file .

    Hello György
I'm very interested in your circuit - what's the current rating?
can you share the PCB and schema, please?

    cheers

HI! I am working on it, I'll upload it if ready. A couple of days.
Maybe stupid question.... but How can I upload PCB, and SCH files?

Can you open this PCB file? I use PFW (protel for windows)
I updated my Picasa album with new photos!!

    Hello all,

I'm new here nice to meet you. I'm interested in making the A3986 PCB. I downloaded the zip fakukac posted but it doesn't show me the component value's. I'm using an older protel (2.8), i'm not fammiliar with Protel but I did manage to print out the circuit so I can toner transfer it. So if you would be so kind to post the bill of material in txt format that be great. I'll post a full review with pictures once I have it all working.

Another question would the component value's still be valid if the A4989 is used instead? Using the same Mosfets that is.

    best regards,

    Roel

Hello! I've updated my album just now, with values of components I use, and a photo of the PCB.

I hope it will help you. Don't hesitate, if any question arises !

    Thanks for the quick reply,

Now i just need to order the parts, anyone know when the A4989 will be available for order? I can't find it anywhere yet, i'll just start with the A3986 and replace it later.

    best regards,

    Ruler

Hi want to ask fakukac if this board is work good.
if yes can you post the values of all objects.
coz i'm built the board that markcomp77 publish before in this thread but i didn't find the resolt that i need there.
the stepes are very hard and there is no microstep
    I used:
    IRFZ44N
    .05 R sense
    420 R g
    23k R osc
    27n C boot
    100n C reg

pleas if you find any wrong value just let me know

    Hi maMar!
It seems to be good, but I use 15 ohm R Gate, and 100 nano C-boot (ceramic!) I haven't the foggiest idea why it has not microstep! You should check the pull-up resistors attached MS1 and MS2 (28,29 pin) If these are 0, it works as full step . ! My circuit works well!

    Thanks for your kind replay

    But what about C reg....!

In datasheet it must be 40 time C boot.
In this case C reg must be 4uF ………. or want.
I know that I didn't follow this rule in my value, but I was trying collecting the best value from internet.
I want to ask you about step resolution problem are you facing this problem………!
If yes how much it is bad.
    Thanks.

    Hi maMar!
I didn't find any problem about microstep. Anyway, I don't use this driver in my CNC machine, I use TB6560AHQ-based driver at the moment. But when I temporarily installed 3986 panel instead of TBA6560 circuit, My machine worked properly with it, I did not find any problem about it. Best regards , George

Hello all, after i found the driver i found this thread and read it through. I made my one PCB design and i want to get a opinion on the schematics, if they are ok. I will get the values for the parts later.

What shall i do with VREG and REF. At VREG i put an C, like in the data sheet but at REF i don't know. A trimmer and a resistor in series, one end at VDD and the other at ground, so that i can ragulate the REF voltage or should i just put a resistor an the pin?

Is it ok if i use only smd?(not the FET's)

I use a 78S05 for the 5V. Should i divide the ground for the FET's and the one for the rest of parts? I mean separate ground trace. Should i afterwards connect the grounds from the 3 controllers togheter?

What problem does the chip has?

What resistor do i need at the STP16NF06(or should i use IRFZ24NPBF?) gate if the supply voltage is 24V and the motor has 2A/phase. Also what is the value of the sense resistor at 4-5A?

Or where can i find the formula for calculating them?

    Hi,

Was thinking about using the new A4989 in developing a network-enabled CNC stepper controller and wanted to hear if anybody had success in using the new Allegro stepper driver?

    Thanks!
