    Refurbing Larken Router

I just discovered this forum. I've been working with CNC vertical mills for 2 years and electronics for 8. I'm interested in building a simple machine but with a shop to make the parts I'm a long way from that.

The company I work for just pulled a Larken Camtool 24 out of the back room is in the process of failing to get it up and running. It's in rough shape but I'm tempted to make an offer to buy it and fix it up. My main question is refurbing some of the linear bearings the X axis rides on. There is a some light rust covering most of the length. Would you try to clean it, replace it or just leave it? If I replace it would I need to realign them? If I can't replace them is better to sand the them or should I just leave the rust? I just don't want to make anything worse.

I have to fix the spindle too.

    Any wisdom would be apreciated.

    The Larken are nice machines.
The slides are usually chrome steel rod, they are custom made slides but you should by rights be able to replace the chrome steel.
If you 'sand' them you may have problems later.
You could try buffing and polishing first.
