G540 running square & round motors

    Hi,

I've a need to run 2 machines off 1 G540. The 1st machine, w/ squared, 4 wire motors runs fine w/ DB9 resistors installed. The 2nd machine wants to run kp56lm2-097 unipolar motors, wired for full winding bipolar duty, along w/ one squared, 4 wire motor, which is identical to the already functional three motors of my other machine.

    Motor specs are: Japan Servo, Unipolar / 2 phases 6 Volts DC (nom) 1.2 Amps / Phase (nom) 2.4 Amps / Motor 1.8 Degree/Step 80 oz/Inch 6 wires

I've found evidence to suggest the G540 is capable of this. My question is what set resistor I should use, and whether or not I'll have to change my power supply's current output every time I switch between the two, very different sets of motors that connect to my G540.

I'm thinking of running my older, round motors at 1.2 amps each, and 3.5 amps for my squared motor. Added up, that's 7.1 amps total. Is that where my current should be set?

Thanks for the read, and advise.

    SOLVED!

I connected the round motors in Bipolar Series fashion using a 1.7K resistor. The 1.7K figure is a sum of the motor's current, multiplied by 1.4, which is common for a 6 wire, full coil motor converted to a four wired hookup. That resistor value, plus the wire color information found here made for another easy G540 based build-out. Thing's a champ!
