Brand new to CNC need help!

Hey guys, I assume you get this thing often.. I am brand new to the whole CNC design/building. I'm not really familiar with everything that goes on with them or what they can do. I know they are a very useful and EXTREMELY accurate tool however when used correctly. However, that is the extent of my knowledge on these machines. I do extensive fabrication with acrylic and this would be a huge help to my efforts. Can I build just a small, say 1 foot x 2 foot or 2 foot x 3 foot CNC machine for home use? The only thing I really need to cut is 1/2" or less thick acrylic. Right now all I have is a 1.5hp plunge router I use in a table and it cuts through this material extremely easily. Could any give me some help here on what I would need to do? Can anyone give me some links to more extensive info on these machines? Is it even possible to do what I would like to? Where can I find plans for such a machine? I heard something about klienbaur(sp?) do they offer plans that would fit my needs? Looking to do this as cheap but effectively as possible. What works?
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome Debutis,

Take a look at this site he offers a range of machine plans. Just the thing for the beginner.

Read through this forum and you'll see a lot of people that have built his design machines.
    Good Luck

The site is www.crankorgan.com but do consider the comments made in the following thread

These sites show one of the design built.

There are several more homemade machine built by the members here with ranging complexity (and price). Sample threads

Technically the first link is one of Johns customers machines but highly modified.

The second machine is not one of his plans or customers, but uses a lot of Johns ideas.

    I wish it wouldn't crash.
