I am trying to figure out the most cost effective way to slot 304 ss.
Here is the setup: I need to make a 1.71 wide slot that is .300 deep and is 1.00 inches long.
I am looking the fastest and cheapest (dreaming, i know) way to make this. Corners in radius are fine.
I would love to hear what some of you Pros would do. Right now I am using trochoidal milling with 7/16 endmill 4 flute carbide around 4500rpm and .030 stepover at 80ipm. It is working but tool life is not what I was hoping for. Indexable or solid tooling?
I should probably add that I am running this on a Haas DT-1
any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Angelo
