Question G540 was working now it is not

My fineline automation router with a rev3(I think) g540 was working last Friday.
Turning it on today I see a red fault light and red lights on the x a and z axis ports and no light on the y port.
I looked at the trouble shooting guide but this problem is not referenced.
    Can you offer any help?
    Thanks

If your turn the power off, unplug all the motors, and turn the power back on, does it come out of fault?

If you turn the power off, unplug the motors and the parallel port cable, set the charge pump switch to off, and turn the power back on does it come out of fault?

removing all the motor cables and then powering on does not change anything.
still in fault and still no light on the Y axis.
removing the parallel port as well and switching the charge pump switch to off and trying again. no difference. Interesting side note, the charge pump switch was already off. was that supposed to be on?
do I have a dead controller?

Well, given that the light on one axis is out, I'd say you got at least a dead axis which is faulting the controller as a whole. I would suggest calling Geckodrive. Normally they do one repair as a freebie, though I am not entirely sure on that.

As far as the charge pump, I recommend you run it on. The charge pump is basically a pulse signal from your computer to the controller. If that signal gets interrupted by say Mach3 crashing or the cord getting pulled out, the controller will go into the fault state and emergency stop everything. This is important from a safety standard.

Your Y axis is shot. Please return the G540 for evaluation and repair.
