Net working Not working. I'll have to wait for my friend to return from vegas I think. I did find an arduino icon on my computer but I started it and there was no evidence I had placed anything in it and I think it's a left over from a tutorial I did make run when the board first came. I know it is probably something simple but I'm lost. Maybe the 7zip thing. Don't know why one download (tutorial) would run without java but this 7zip thing wants that? I remember why I get friends to do these things.

Well I may not be much with the software but I do a mean install. Note how arduino,ramps etc is bungee'd to a cigar box lid and the blank screen is protected inside the box. :-)

It appears that you are using a very restricted version of windows. If you are not logged on as administrator, it will restrict where you can save and create files. Is the zip file in your Downloads folder? Where is it on your hard drive?

Tutorial would work fine if Windows didn't get in the way. All of yours and Buddy's problems are Windows problems.

Well there's 5 hours gone of my life gone! I have made such a mess I'm heading to Costco to buy a new computer since I doubt I can get rid of all the mess I have made. I'm going to go get coffee and then delete everything that says arduino (I'm not sure if I even can do that as I tried that once and it still said "are you sure you want to delete X") and start over. I think I was close a couple of times but then put things in the wrong place and then tried to correct that and then made things worse. I don't know how to properly use "copy to" but I do know how to drag and drop so will try that this next time and see if I can get the files where they belong. I notice in step 9 there is the lazy 8 arduino icon. I don't have that in my download done in step 1? I'm also not sure when things are extracted or not either. The stuff opens with something called 7 zip.There is a - sign that says extract but maybe it didn't extract the lazy 8? I think I can't keep proper track of the steps and actually have no idea what I'm doing. I seem to be able to use install wizards to install spam with no problem :-)

Could you screenshot the folder you downloaded the bits to so I can see what you are talking about?

Press ALT-PRINTSCREEN and then open PAINT and do EDIT PASTE. Or if you already have your own method of taking screenshots, that's fine too.

Have not had much time today.But I downloaded Java.
To solve my Directory/Folder problem I might just rename them or just use them like they are, we will see. I think I am getting the handle on this after all.
The only consolation is that I am not alone with my problems.
My screen capture looks different because I am using a program called Screen Grab;

And the envelope please: We don'tknow what were doing! I have a 7 laptop, I buy these things at Costco every couple of years and when they slow down with spam I pick up another one. Have a whole stack. My brother (a software guy) tells me they are only good for pressing the "like"button. Course I don't do facebook or that twitter thing. I did do something like this before with openscad. There was a "letters"? add on to openscad and the poster did get me through getting it into librarys or somewhere where it could be used in the program but I didn't know why or how. Retro do I really need to load java when I have a copy of arduino that opens on here already? This machine is only 6 months old. I'm not ready to replace it yet. Seriously,I probably need to go back and devote another block of time and figure this out. Had to do other stuff today.

Ok Removed all traces of arduino I could. All 57K of them. Uninstalled the program etc. Started again and made it to step 14 where you select the com port. The serial port button is "light colored" or non operational. Not click able. ?Any ideas? I did start the marlin ini and this is what appeared in the sketch window:
