I have a chinese laser. There was very little info.

I have not powered it up yet. First thing I am unsure about may seem stupid. when I open the back where the laser tube is located, I notice some styrofoam between the tube and the frame. I don't know if this is packing or needs to stay in place. I wonder if I leave the styrofoam if it could catch fire.

Next thing is cooling. what is the accepted operating temperature of the tube? water? I recently got an old office water cooler, and thought maybe I could convert that to a cooler for the laser. Anyone have suggestions on that?

Also, I have thought about converting the electronics to something more open source like an arduino. Any one do this kind of conversion?

I am located in northern Illinois and would be interested in meeting anyone local to discuss laser engraving with.

Get rid of the styrofoam....for packing only. I operate mine between 60 and 76 degrees F. The temps stated are what I use, others have different preferences. Most users upgrade to the DSP unit. Short answers to easy questions. Opinions will vary on all of the above subjects.

1. the styrofoam is packing for the laser tube, please leave it when you start to work.
2. if your old water cooler can contact with the machine, you can have a try.
