For a DXF 2d drawing Is there a way to select a whole object and join gaps? Or do you just have to zoom in and find every little one and use "join line"

No,
You need to join where gaps are. Do a chain selection and where the selection stops is your gap. You could join with lines or you can use trim extend.Al DePoalo
