    Multiple solids in stp file import as 1 solid

    I tried to import a stp file with multiple solids into V26, all the solids merge into 1 large solid. Is there a way to prevent this happening, other than importing 1 stp file at a time?

    There are a few different versions of the STEP format. But with that said, Even if you are writing AP203 Level 2 or up, I don't think the importer is reading that level in.... Just level 1.

    I export out on seperate levels,, Bobcad reads all the solids, but makes them into one large single solid. Is there away to split the large solid back into it's original seperate parts?

    Open your step file in notepad and read the header FILE_DESCRIPTION just after the ISO statement.. What is the numerical digit of that description?

    Yes. You will have to use utilities-stitching-unstitch solid to surfaces, then restitch the individual object groups separately as desired............

    Hopefully you have the option to export in IGES format.
    Bob plays much nicer about keeping layers and solids in this format.

    I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that.

    This is what I have

    FILE_DESCRIPTION(
    /* description */ (''),
    /* implementation_level */ '2;1');

    Ok, so the STEP file version level can contain layer/color information... You can open the file with BobCad and save it as an ACIS SAT file. Then close out and re-open the SAT file and the individual solids info should come through then.....

    Plan B worked.

    Read stp into Cadkey99, and exported a SAT file. Read into BoBcad as seperate solids.

    Got there in the end! Thanks for the help!
