    Breakout board isolation

I have a 5 axis breakout board and am not sure how is the USB power supply isolated from the main board and from LPT port. Do not see any chopper on the board. The situation refers to a 230V USB power adapter too. Maybe using the USB from the PC is a better solution vs an external power supply.
Did anybody dive into this subject?
    Thanks

What kind of breakout board do you have? Is it home made? Can you post a model number or some pictures. I'm sure we can figure this out. Just post as much information as you can.

I don't like isolation. It's more trouble than it's worth and even with the best, it's still possible to fry your PC if you do something dumb. And I can do dumb things. I use an old "throwaway" PC to drive the CNC machine and keep my nice iron for design only.

    Re: Breakout board isolation

If you think isolation more trouble than it's worth then you were extremely lucky till now. Fried PC is one possible outcome, other possibility are frustrating "quirks" that such system may have. Random crashes, missing or additional steps or e-stops and so on. I worked on such system and there were days when I was just a tiny, tiny bit from throwing the damn thing out of the window.
